Roman cement was shaped here in several layers of plaster into a fluted pilaster, resting on a base of rustic plaster. The interplay of smooth and rough surfaces reflects the full expressiveness of the material. Even in its classical form, the work speaks of imperfection—of how every precise line rests on a raw foundation.
