Inspired by the gesso grounds of classical paintings, this panel begins with a multi-layer gypsum coating on a rigid wooden support, reinforced with fabric. Over this ground we applied an oil glaze and let it cure for weeks. The final accent layer blends ultramarine blue and cadmium orange into a soft grey-green, dissolving into the warm red-orange of the substrate. The result is a gentle contrast between warm and cool that invites you to lose yourself in its layered depths.
